Study and practice the teachings of Buddha

INDIAN LAKE Celestial Drum Tendai Buddhist Sangha, led by Seishin Jack Fitterer, ordained Tendai Buddhist priest, continues to offer the opportunity for practitioners and those interested in investigating practice to come together to study and practice the Buddhas teachings on a ongoing basis.

During the summer months the Sangha explored, through discussion and practice, basic shikan meditation as presented by the 6th century Chinese monk Chih-i. This style of meditation as practiced in Tendai Buddhism both calms and focuses the mind and generates insight into the nature of reality. In September we move on to becoming more familiar with the basic Buddhist teachings on ethics, practice, wisdom and compassion, to provide a firm foundation for continued study and practice.

The group meets each Thursday evening for discussion of Buddhadharma, chanting, meditation and fellowship. The Buddhas teachings provide roadmaps to Awakening and its manifestation in lives through expressing compassion and wisdom.

Meetings, which are open to all, take place in Indian Lake. Introductory instruction in basic meditation will be offered newcomers at 6:15 p.m. Dharma talk and discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. The meditation service, including both chanting and meditation will be from 7 8 p.m. All are invited to join in for tea, cookies and friendly conversation after the service. Call Jack at 648-6494 or e-mail fitterer@acmenet.net for directions or more information.
