Sentinel gridders eye playoff run

TICONDEROGA Ticonderoga has established itself as a solid football program the past few years, advancing to state tournament play.

The Sentinels will be trying to keep that momentum in 2007, although it may be tough. Ti lost some key players to graduation, including quarterback James Lenhart and bruising running back Zach LaPointe.

But the cupboard isnt bare for Coach Bob Sutphen, whose club posted a 4-1 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and 8-4 overall record last autumn.

The Sentinels will be relying on a nucleus of eight returning players.

Krys Ross, Josh Huestis and Steven Lenhart boast experience at running back. Brandon Keller and Jake Kelly are back as tight ends. Jesse Clark and Tyler Bush will anchor the offensive and defensive lines. Brian Smith returns at wide receiver.

Many Sentinel fans are wondering who will line up at quarterback. Junior Anthony Barnao is the lone QB on the pre-season roster.

Joining Ross, Huestis and Steven Lenhart at running back are Matt Bussey and Todd Carr.

Lining up with Smith as wide receivers will be Brandon Bezio, Evan Glading, Frank Lafferty and Jake taylor.

At tight end with Keller and Kelly will be Mike Pockett and Matt Streeter.

Along the offensive line will be Clark, Bush, Derek Brighenti, Kaleb Bruce, Anthony Contarino, Shane Fuller, Craig Granger, Shane Graser, Scott Hamel, Chris Maldanado, Schyler Mosier, Ralph Todd and Kris Wilson.

Defense has been the hallmark of Ticonderoga teams the past few seasons. This fall should be no different.

Keller and Huestis lead a strong linebacker corps. Theyre joined by Barnao, Bruce, Bussey, Carr, and Streeter.

In the second the Sentinels will feature Ross, Lenhart and Smith along with Bezio, Glading, Lafferty, Pockett and Taylor.

Ticonderogas defensive front will feature Clark, Bush, Kelly, Brighenti, Contarino, Fuller, Granger, Graser, Hamel, Maldanado, Mosier, Todd and Wilson.
