NEWCOMB Despite the cool temperatures and cloudy weather it was still fiesta time at the Newcomb Town Beach Aug. 22.
The Essex County Office for the Aging held its annual Newcomb Picnic that day. With the help of the Adirondack Community Action Program, the senior citizens were treated to a Mexican fiesta theme picnic along with music, food, games and fun.
Besides Newcomb senior citizens, there were more than 275 Seniors from all over Essex County plus the North Creek, Keeseville, and Ticonderoga sites that enjoyed the day. Mike Leddick and his band from Olmsteadville entertained the crowd while they played bingo; were given door prizes, and, for those who were game, took a horse-drawn wagon ride.
There was even a public health van for anyone that wanted to have their blood pressure or sugar levels checked and an information tent manned by Cooperative Extension and the Retired Senior Program.
Dawn Stoddard, who organized the picnic said, The day turned out to be another great event despite the cool weather and thanked the Town of Newcomb for the use of the facilities.
