Police command center to get financial boost

Two Brothers Tavern will donate 10 percent of its proceeds on Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day) to the Middlebury Police Department.

The donation will help fund the Departments "Mobile Command Post". This large truck is intended for use by Addison County emergency services as a mobile command post and communications platform for major emergency and non-emergency events in Addison County.

Since its inception a few years ago, the truck has been used as a control hub for bomb threats, hazardous materials incidents, major crime scenes (such as a shooting in East Middlebury and the Dog Team fire), emergency drills, and a variety of large public events, such as the recent Firefighters Convention and parade and the All-State Music Parade.

The truck has been used by local fire departments, police, and state police.

The truck is funded by grant funds and private donations. No tax dollars are used to support the ongoing use and maintenance of the truck. Keeping this truck available for emergency multi-agency coordination is dependent on the fund to keep it going.

Tom Hanley, chief of the Middlebury Police Department said, This effort by Two Brothers Tavern will certainly go a long way to helping keep this truck available to first responders.

The fundraiser is part of Two Brothers on-going Charitable Monday program, which was begun in November 2006. The first Monday of every month Two Brothers donates 10 percent of its proceeds to a designated charity or non-profit organization. Former beneficiaries include the United Way, the Addison County Humane Society, Porter Hospital and Parent to Parent of Vermont in August their biggest Charitable Monday to date, earning $533.45 for parents in need.

It is our hope that people will come out on Labor Day to help us support the Middlebury Police Department, said Holmes Jacobs, proprietor of Two Brothers Tavern.

If you would like to make a donation to the event, or have your organization considered for a local Charitable Monday, visit Two Brothers Tavern at 86 Main St. in Middlebury.
