Larry Cleveland is right man for the job

To the Editor:

With the sheriffs election fast approaching, I wanted to express my support for Larry Cleveland. Up until my retirement in May of this year, I served as Warren County Administrator. In my position, I had many occasions to work with Larry on Warren County issues, including his budget and the 30+ contracts he manages.

Larry is an excellent department manager and administrator. He has saved the county thousands of dollars by carefully watching his budget and by helping other departments. When cuts to the budget were needed, he would cooperate by identifying areas where we could cut expenses without cutting critical public safety services. And when the public safety building was under construction, he personally scrutinized hundreds of payments over a dozen contractors and subcontractors. Ever mindful of our tax dollars, he brought the project in on time and under budget.

When the municipal center was recently closed due to an electrical fire, Larry opened his command center and provided telephones and workspace so the county clerk, department of public health and board of supervisors could keep county government services functioning during the emergency.

He also manages over 30 contracts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, including health, dental and food services for the jail, vehicle maintenance, uniform purchases, radio repair maintenance, computer systems and building security. He also has public safety contracts with the Village of Lake George, the Town of Chester and the state of New York which he handles for the county.

In my opinion, Larry Cleveland is a professional administrator with the skills, expertise and most importantly, the experience needed to serve as our sheriff. There is no one else in this election more qualified.

Joan Parsons
Warren County Administrator (retired)
