ELIZABETHTOWN Students returning to Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School will be welcomed by a new principal: Scott Osborne, formerly a teacher at Peru Central School. A native of Plattsburgh, he currently resides in Peru with his wife, Jodie.
Osborne is enthusiastic about joining the district, saying that there were some really good things happening here. The interview process, which consisted of community and student input, helped him to ultimately accept the position when it was offered.
The school is well supervised and I couldnt imagine saying no to this place, said Osborne.
Osborne, who started his job on July 1, is a graduate of SUNY- Plattsburgh and has a Bachelors Degree in elementary education and a Masters in reading. His certificate of advanced studies is in educational leadership. He has experience teaching middle- and elementary-school students, and also coached high school sports.
One of the challenges hell be facing this year, Osborne said, are the educational standards set by New York State and ensuring that students meet the mandated requirements. Keeping ahead of the learning curve will be key.
We have the power to make all of these kids a successes. Thats our job. Thats our duty, said Osborne.
He added that he had an open door policy, and encouraged parents to be in touch with him with any concerns regarding the educational lives of their children. Osborne said hes going to be very visible.
Youre going to see me outside the principal is the face of the school, and needs to be out and about, listening to what people in the community need, he said.
