MINERVA The summers about over, school is around the corner, but the sounds and sights of the 2007 Minerva Youth Program will stick around for awhile. Despite a few rainy days and other weather issues, a large group of kids ages four to thirteen spent six weeks this past July and August swimming; camping; hiking; playing a large assortment of games; doing arts and crafts; attending musicals, a fair and a water park; and having plenty of fun. Minerva Lake was the site of much of what happened, but a great number of activities occurred away from the lake (including Minerva Central School, where three rain days led to plenty of indoor fun).
To wrap up the summer, the annual end of the program morning of skits, songs, and awards took place on Friday, August 17. The energy levels were high and the kids outdid themselves with their excellent skits; additionally, their various accomplishments were recognized at the programs end. The Minerva Yacht Club (aka summer sailing program) end of the season regatta had taken place on August 15, and ribbons and recognitions were given out by Ron Bruce and Gus Stewart, who directed an excellent sailing program for all the participants. See the fine article in the August 25th issue of the News-Enterprise for details on the regatta.
