Youth soccer tournament a success

To the Times of Ti: On Sept. 29, the Willsboro Youth Commission hosted a soccer tournament for athletes in grades Pre-K through 6. There were many teams from nine schools including: Schroon Lake, Ticonderoga, Crown Point, Moriah, Westport, Elizabethtown, Keene, Lake Placid and Willsboro. The weather cooperated and over 1,000 people were in attendance. Thank you to Kevin and Yvonne Pierce, Glenn Sayward, and the Village Meat Market for their donations and ongoing support of our youth program. Many thanks go to Mark and Wanda McKenna and staff of the IGA and Country Store for their continued encouragement and generosity. Appreciation is also extended to Randy Swires for the upkeep and lining of the soccer fields, Mariko FineLease for helping with pre-tournament details for the concession stand, Joe Walsh for the use of the PA system, Herb Longware and Jim Burt for the tasty michigan sauce, and to Chris Huber and Todd Pierson for volunteering to be adult referees. We were fortunate and thankful to have several student volunteers to referee and work in the concession stands: Brad Ball, Clayton Cross, Justin Drinkwine, Jessica Martin, Tyler Pierce, Ryan Pierce, and Matt Sayward (all from Willsboro); also Lindsay Reynolds and Kaitlyn Leatherman (both from Schroon Lake). Our gratitude is extended to all the visiting teams and spectators for a safe and enjoyable day! Most importantly, we would like to thank all parents, coaches, and volunteers who put so much time and effort into making the soccer tournament a success. We cannot possibly name everyone involved in the planning, preparation, management, and clean up of the tournament, but please know you are appreciated beyond words. And finally, to our youth participants who demonstrated great sportsmanship and athleticism: It is truly a pleasure to watch the enthusiasm you show everyday and you make us very proud!
