Moriah secured home-field advantage in the first round of the Section VII-X Class D football tournament with a 20-12 win against Saranac Oct. 19. The Vikings (5-3) played at home last night against Seton Catholic in the Class D semifinals. The winner gets top-seeded Ticonderoga the next weekend for the D title. James Carlson rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown to pace the Vikings against Saranac. He staked Moriah to a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game, breaking free for a 73-yard TD run. Mike Brassard booted the PAT. After Saranac closed within 7-6, Moriahs Tyler Blaise hit Richard Larmore with a 37-yard scoring pass for 13-6 Viking lead. Saranac tallied against before half and it was a 13-12 game. It stayed that way until the games final minute. Steve Owens iced the victory for Moriah, scoring from eight yards out with 55 seconds remaining in the game. Brassard again kicked the extra point. Owens added 50 yards on 14 carries for the Vikings, who had 266 yards on 44 carries. Peru 41, Ticonderoga 0 Peru completed an undefeated regular season by beating Ticonderoga, 41-0, in Northern Football Conference action Oct. 20. Ti, 6-2 on the year, played Plattsburgh last night as a tune up for the Section VII-X Class D championship game Nov. 2. The Sentinels will host the winner of last nights Moriah-Seton Catholic game. Peru jumped to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter against Ticonderoga and stretched its advantage to 27-0 at the half.
