PLATTSBURGH If you want quality salon care offered by a dedicated staff of local professionals, then look no further than Punkis Shear Perfection. Punkis Shear Perfection, located at 2 Halsey Court, conveniently off Boynton Avenue, is a full-service salon offering just about everything from hair to skin care, including manicures, pedicures and massage. From a simple haircut to a special up-do for weddings, proms or other special occasions, Punkis is ready to serve you for your special day even if its simply a day to pamper yourself. Though Punkis Shear Perfection has been located at the corner of Halsey Court and Boynton Avenue since 1998, the business roots go back much farther. Owner Elizabeth Punki Duhaime herself has more than 35 years experience in the field cosmetology. It was October 1982 when Punki opened her own shop at the former McMartin building at the corner of Cornelia Street and Healey Avenue. Punkis husband Patrick and his best friend Gary Amell remodeled an old car repair garage, turning the building into a location Punki would operate her business for 16 years. When the building was purchased by Eckerd Drugs in 1998, it left Punki with the decision of where to go from there. After looking at a few locations, [we] came across a building that has always been of interest and it had a going out of business sign on the door, said Punki. My husband and I immediately jumped on it and from the moment I walked in the door I knew it was what I wanted! Punkis husband and his best friend once again donned their contracting hats to remodel a new location for Punkis salon, opening in August of that year. The following year, the business front reception area was expanded and, just two years ago, was expanded again to make way for a manicure area, lunch room and facial and wax room. Another addition included a massage room, which features a hand-painted mural by local artist Peggy McCarthy, of which Punki is very proud. Punkis Shear Perfection today also includes a separate pedicure room, featuring with two pedicure chairs. That part of the Punkis salon remains a very busy part of the locally-owned business as many mothers and daughters and wives and husbands take advantage of the amenity. Once people receive these services they usually realize that it isnt just about pampering themselves, it is for overall well-being, Punki said. Though some may think they cant afford salon treatment for their hair and beauty needs, Punki wants everyone to know her business offers services which can fit practically anyones budget. And, while some business try to attract customers with gimmicks or seemingly special offers, Punki and her staff of nine employees work hard to attract clients who become part of their extended family. We offer the best service for the best price, said Punki. We treat our clientele right and even reward them with special services for their loyalty, usually at holiday time. We have the most fabulous staff who provide outstanding service. Our clients can testify to that, Punki added. We work hard and we work as a team. We help each other and we respect each other and that makes everything else fall in to place. Punkis Shear Perfection is open Monday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Special appointments may also be arranged. Walk-ins are welcome during regular business hours. For more information, contact Punkis Shear Perfection at 563-0620. Punki would also like to add she thanks her staff Paula, Mariel, Ashley, Kylie, Dottie, Billy, Nancy, Erin and Don as well as Gary Amell and especially her husband, who is currently stationed overseas in Iraq, serving with the U.S. Navy.
