Barton Group Board names new chief operating officer

GLENS FALLS The Barton Group Board of Directors today announced the appointment of Charles R. Barton to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer. Chuck has served on the Barton Group Board for 18 years and will continue as a board member. In making the announcement, Board Chairman Charles H. Bracken said, Chuck Barton spent his childhood on Gore Mountain and in Glens Falls, and for several summers worked in Bartons North Creek operations. This combined with Chucks management experience in both large and small companies and his undergraduate industrial engineering and graduate business degrees make Chuck uniquely qualified to lead Bartons operations. Chuck brings his lifelong passion for the garnet business to Barton as we are experiencing great growth and opportunities in our markets and are completing a major re-engineering and expansion of our North Creek operations. As COO, Barton will be responsible for the operations, information technology and logistics areas of the Barton Group including Barton Mines. A family owned business for five generations, Barton Mines was founded in 1878. Barton Mines is the world's largest producer and distributor of industrial garnet grains and powders. Barton said, This is a very exciting opportunity to join the leadership team of this very dynamic business. And there is the fringe benefit of moving my family back to the area where I grew up. Barton earned an MBA from New York University and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University. In addition to the Barton Group Board, he also sits on the board of a mutual fund complex on Wall Street and is the Chairman of an American Red Cross chapter in New Jersey. The Barton Board also announced several promotions. Richard G. Jenks, Jr. has been promoted to Chief Financial Officer of The Barton Group; R. Randolph Rapple promoted to President of Barton Mines Company, LLC; William H.
