AARCH honors exemplary stewards

KEESEVILLE On Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, preservation enthusiasts from around the Adirondack Park gathered at the Lake George Club in Diamond Point to honor and celebrate the 2007 Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) Awards. Six awardees, including local governments, community groups, and individuals, all shared their stories of challenge and success, passion and purpose amongst a lively and engaged group of advocates and supporters. The AARCH Stewardship Committee seeks representative examples of long-term stewardship and committed preservation practice as well as sensitivity to the original function and period of each resource. The dedication, work, and care they all have shown exemplifies these ideals. Selected by the AARCH Stewardship Committee, chaired by Board Member Peggy Prime, this years awardees are: Willem and Marguerite Monster, for the restoration of the Saacndaga Station; Lauren Murphy, for several exemplary projects in Essex; Major and Diane Bowes, for the long-term stewardship of Covewood Lodge on Big Moose Lake; Town of Duane, for the long-term stewardship of the Duane Methodist-Episcopal Church; Minerva Historical Society, for the restoration of the Irishtown Schoolhouse; and the Church of St. Sacrement Congregation, for their long-term stewardship of their church in Bolton Landing.
