Eighteen-year-old Amanda Gebo of Bristol bested other competitors to become the 2007 Vermont "Best Bagger." The competition took place recently during the Vermont Food Industry's annual convention and expo at the Miller Expo Centre at the Champlain Valley Exposition. Amanda, an employee of Shaw's in Bristol for the past year and a half, won the competition from a field of contestants from supermarkets around the state. Store manager, Dan Griffiths said, "We are very proud of her performance at the competition and pleased to have Amanda as one of our key associates." Amanda is a graduate of Mount Abraham High School. Her next competition will be in Las Vegas, representing Vermont at the national contest this winter, which is held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the National Grocers Association. Second place honors went to Brian Terron of Lantman's, while third went to P.J .Grant of Price Chopper. Judges for this year's event were representatives of contest sponsors, Larry Scheidegger of Country Kitchen Bakeries, Amy Scalabrini of Capital Candy and Hadley Melendy of the Vermont Lottery. The Vermont Grocers' Association is a statewide organization representing approximately 680 stores and 250 suppliers to the industry.
