Wing wins Good Hands Award for horsemanship

ESSEX The Eddy Farm School for Horse and Rider is a non-profit horse farm and riding school located in Middlebury, Vt. whose mission is to teach traditional horsemanship skills and promote amateur athletic competition for everyone in our community. Each summer the Eddy Farm hosts two combined training schooling events, a hunter pace, summer day camps and overnight camps, daily riding lessons, use of its cross-country course and a variety of other services, all open to the public. To learn more about the Eddy Farm please visit www.eddyfarmschool.org or call (802)388-26196. Marshall S.K.S. Gray, certified by the British Horse Society, an accomplished rider of nearly 50 years in disciplines as varied as hunting, eventing, jumping, dressage and endurance riding, and an instructor and great patron of the EF and its mission, conceived and established the Good Hands Award, in 2007. A silver trophy, donated by Gray, will live at the EF and will carry the names of those riders who best exemplify the sportsmanship and riding skills promoted and most valued at the EF. The Good Hands Award will be conferred at the discretion of the EF to a competitor at an EF Horse Schooling Trial. The first Good Hands Award was presented at the Sept. 16 Horse Schooling Trial to Emily Wing of Essex. Wing is a sophomore at Westport Central School, and a member of Essex County 4-H and Moosalamoo Pony Club, sponsored by the Equestry in New Haven, Vt. Wing has been riding most of her life, but for the past three years, she has been training and schooling horses of all ages. She has built her training and riding skills by attending camps, clinics, lessons and competing at Schooling shows such as the Eddy Farm show to gain experience. Emily and her ten year old Thoroughbred, Jos Little Attitude, have been working together for a couple of years, but they have achieved a relationship of oneness this summer. Emilys dreams for the future are to continue working with equine and to compete at higher levels in Hunter Jumper and/or Eventing shows.
