CHESTERTOWN They come dressed as mermaids and Notre Dame football players, prom queens and jail birds. Last year, there were 152 of them, and this year, there could be over 200. The eighth annual Halloween Pug Parade is this Sunday, Oct. 21, at Dynamite Hill in Chestertown. Were expecting a lot of new pugs this year, said organizer Kim Olden. Weve had calls from Florida and Connecticut this year. Registration for the parade begins at 11 a.m. and there will be food vendors, pug paraphernalia vendors and Oldens jewelry. We have long sleeve T-shirts and sweatshirts this year, Olden said. And Petcasso will be here from Saratoga. I hope the weather is good. Judging begins at noon, with categories like curliest tail, best wrinkles and fattest. The parade will be at 1 p.m. with each pug getting the opportunity to strut its stuff. Sometimes pugs get their owners to dress up in costumes too. Well have a photographer there taking pictures, too, Olden said. Pugs will win prizes and certificates for costumes, from most creative to scariest, cartoon character costume to most handsome.
