Street repairs under way

TICONDEROGA Ticonderogas main thoroughfare is being revamped. Montcalm Street is getting all new sidewalks and the street itself will soon be resurfaced. Its been needed for a while, but the the time is right now, Supervisor Bob Dedrick said. The project is inconvenient for some shoppers, but it has the support of local businessmen and the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, he said. Montcalm Street from Tower Avenue to the Liberty Monument is getting handicap accessible sidewalks and new blacktop. We didnt want to do it during the summer tourist season, but it has to be done before the cold weather gets here, Dedrick explained. Blacktop plants will be shutting down soon for the year. That road has been torn up several times for infrastructure improvements and its in rough shape, he added. This needs to be done. Plans call for the Ti highway department to mill one and blacktop one side of Montcalm Street at a time to allow access to the downtown area, Dedrick said.
