Richard L. Waldron Sr.

PORT HENRY Richard "Pickles" Waldron, Sr., age 67, died at his home on Oct. 13, 2007, with his family at his side, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 8, 1940, in Port Henry to the late Milford and Marion (Grant) Waldron. He graduated from Port Henry High School where he was known throughout the North Country as an outstanding athlete. He married Esther Fish on January 7, 1967, and resided in the town of Moriah until his death. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman who shared his love for the outdoors with his family. In his youth he had a love for fast cars and racing. He served for many years as a Town of Moriah ambulance squad member, Town of Moriah police officer and chief of the Port Henry Fire Department. He retired from International Paper Co. and spent his retirement years hunting in the Adirondacks, deep sea fishing in Maine, and looking after his family and doting on his beloved granddaughters. He was a loyal friend and hero to many. Richard is survived by his wife, Esther, his son and wife, Richard Jr. and Linda of Champlain; his daughter and her husband, Sheila and Robert Bridge of Lewis; his daughter Tina LaMour of Malone; his daughter and her husband Valerie and Kevin Brace and granddaughters Lindsay and Lauren Brace, all of Crown Point. He is further survived by a brother, John Waldron, a sister, Marilyn Potter, both of Port Henry, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear family friend, Elaine Fields. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. Patrick's Church, Port Henry. Father Kelly and Deacon Elliot Shaw will officiate. There will be no calling hours and interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crown Point School, Dick Waldron Memorial Scholarship Fund, for the most dedicated senior girl athlete.
