NFL Picks: Getting closer now

Another fine weekend of football, capped off Monday night by a Big Blue victory over Atlanta. Things are really shaping up for a hugely meaningful NFC East showdown on Nov. 11.

The New York Football Giants have San Francisco at home next week, followed by a trip across the pond to face the hapless Phins in London. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls, coming off a beat-down by the Patsies, host rookie sensation Adrian Peterson this week, then, after a bye week, travel to division rival Philly. The Giants will have a week off before they host the Cowgirls in what figures to be the battle for the top spot in the division.

Its a very likely scenario both teams will be 6-2 going into that game, although I certainly can see Dallas coming in at 5-3.

Fortunately for my lovely wife, Ill be watching that game hundreds of miles away from home, sparing her and the dogs my celebratory exaltations! And Ill have my buddy Pete Burns, a fellow Big Blue fanatic, to share the joy with.

Petes got to be pretty happy moving up the picking list a game at a time, but it was John Santasier who crushed our group with an 11-2 posting while most of us struggle at 7-6 or 8-5 for Week 6.

Looking ahead to Week 7, Im struggling with several picks. The Deadskins host Arizona. Washington has shown it will do anything to lose a game in the second half. The Cardinals just signed perennial third-string quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, who likely will start. That adds up to a pretty ugly game. Guess Ill take the Skins.

Then theres the Jets/Bengals. I dont know what to make of either team. My hunch is that Pennington will get the hook if he doesnt produce and he knows it. The Bengals stink. Guess Ill take the Jets.
