Essex County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting

The Essex County Board of Supervisors will hold a Special Meeting on Monday, Oct 22 at 10AM to discuss how the county will pay the $13,000 that the NY Supreme Court ordered they pay to County Manager Cliff Donaldson for the cost of defending himself against the suit brought by Supervisor George Cannon.

The only source of funding the county has is tax dollars. In 2005 Supervisor George Cannon filed a lawsuit against Donaldson without the support of the Board of Supervisors.

The minutes from July 25, 2005 meeting state:
CANON:" I read with interest the meeting on Monday. Let me clarify a couple of things here - number one, I am not asking the County of Essex to provide one nickle toward this action. **************It just seems to me that it is time to put this issue to bed one way or another and that is why I did what I did and I reiterate that I have not asked this board for one nickle toward this action. "

Despite his insistence that it would not cost the county any money, we are now faced with a $13,000 bill. Some people feel the cost should be paid by Mr Cannon. That will be discussed on Monday at a special meeting that is open to the public. Any Essex County tax payer can attend and find out how your money is spent.
