UVM wins 3-1 over New Hampshire DURHAM, N.H. T.J. Gore (Macomb, Mich.) had a goal and an assist to lead a balanced attack as Vermont topped New Hampshire, 3-1, in America East mens soccer Wednesday afternoon at Lewis Field. In picking up their first conference victory this season, the Catamounts (4-8-0, 1-1-0 America East) broke out of an offensive slump where they had been shut out in four straight games, all 1-0 defeats. Panos Georgiadis (Morrisville, Vt.) for his second goal of the season. The advantage was shortlived as Kyle Urso tied the game for the Wildcats in the 24th minute drilling home a low free kick. Vermont quickly regained the lead just over seven minutes later on a great effort by Loren Hill (Eugene, Ore.) and Hasman clanging shots off the cross bar. UVM closed out the scoring in the 78th minute as sophomore Roger Scully (East Lyme, Conn.) made two saves in recording the victory for the Catamounts while Jenne finished with six saves for the Wildcats (3-4-4, 0-1-1). Stony Brook wins in OT STONY BROOK, N.Y. A goal by Matt Avelleno 44 seconds into overtime gave Stony Brook a 1-0 win over Vermont in America East mens soccer Saturday night at Lavalle Stadium. The loss drops the Catamounts to 4-9-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play. A game after scoring a season-high three times at New Hampshire Wednesday, Vermont could only muster six shots against the Seawolves (7-4-2, 1-1-1) who won for the first time in the America East. The Catamounts best chance was by Lee Stephane Kouadio (Woodlyn, Pa.) in the 80th minute. Kouadio slipped through two defenders but his drive from the eight yards out was saved by a diving SBU keeper Dawid Ditrich. On the game-winner, Avellinos 30-yard blast was tipped by a leaping Vermont goalie Roger Scully (East Lyme, Conn.) before finding the net. In a game played primarily in the midfield, Stony Brook had only 12 shots with just three on target as Scully finished with two saves. SBU also had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Ditrich made four saves in recording his third shutout of the season.
