Families win Fresh Air Fund photo contest

Officials of the Fresh Air Fund in New York City announced the winners of the organizations annual Friendly Town Photo Contest. Locally, the Pearson and Veysey families, of the Rutland Friendly Town, were runners-up in the On Top of the World photo category. The local winners were selected from hundreds of pictures sent in by host families throughout the participating 13 states and Canada, reflecting the memorable experiences they shared with their New York City visitors. Categories included Brightest Smiles, The Great Outdoors, Family Photo Time and others. The Pearson and Veysey photo entry features young visitors Sammy of Queens, who stayed with the Pearsons, and Natasha of the Bronx, who visited with the Veysey family. Nearly 5,000 New York City children visited volunteer host families in suburban and rural communities through the Funds Friendly Town program. Through these experiences, Fresh Air children escaped the hot and crowded city streets to enjoy the simple pleasures of summer.
