Sister M. Loretta

TICONDEROGA Sister M. Loretta, 104, Sisters of St. Joseph, 1425 Washington St., died Thursday afternoon in the Motherhouse infirmary. Sister Loretta was an elementary school teacher. Her assignments included Sacred Heart School, Watertown, Holy Name School, AuSable, Holy Family School, Watertown, the Conservatory of Music, Watertown, Sherman Park Academy, Port Henry, Augustinian Academy, Carthage, St. Marys School, Ticonderoga, St. Josephs School, Massena, St. Andrews School, Norwood, and Bishop Smith School, Malone. She was employed for social services for the Diocese of Ogdensburg at Port Leyden for a year in the 1950s. She retired to the Motherhouse after teaching for 55 years. Born Charlotte LeClair on June 1, 1903, in Port Henry, daughter of Theodore H. and Clara A. Ringer LeClair, she graduated from Champlain Academy, Port Henry. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on July 6, 1921. She received her habit on May 15, 1922, and made her final profession on Aug. 27, 1927, with the Rev. Joseph H. Conroy officiating at both. She graduated from the Normal School of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was certified by the state of New York as a teacher. Survivors are several nieces and nephews. Eight brothers and four sisters died before her. A funeral Mass was said at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel with the Rev. Richard W. Kennedy, pastor of the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Calling hours were held at the Morehouse Chapel. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Home.
