Paul Smith makes our roads better

To the Editor: In response to Mr. Herbert Johnsons letter, I have 20 years of heavy construction experience, plus 10 years experience as an equipment operator for the Town of Horicon Highway Department. First: The equipment that Paul Smith purchased has been needed for years. Second: As for cutting the roadways back, it is a proven fact that by letting the sun in, it will dry out the roads faster and will also help in the winter. Third: In regards to the construction site of the new garage, I have not seen the whole crew on the site at any one time. Fourth: I would like to know where your concern was when the crew was sent to your home a few years ago to remove trees, widen your driveway and shoulder-stone the whole length. That was a long way off of the highway, at the taxpayers expense. Plus your driveway never caused any problem to the town road. It was just a favor so you could get your camper in easier. I know because I was one of the men sent by the previous highway superintendent and did the reconstruction of your beautiful driveway. I personally believe that with Paul Smith as highway superintendent, the highway department has ben run more efficiently and professionally, which has produced a higher quality and higher volume of work.
