Johnsburg cross-country starts strong

JOHNSBURG The Johnsburg cross-country team has come off the starting line with a bang. The team now consists of 13 active runners. On Tuesday, Sept. 25 the team traveled to Argyle for a dual meet; a race against two other schools scored as separate contests. The boys varsity team competed short-handed, but posted a strong showing. The boys filled the top three spots in the race against Hartford and Argyle. Steve Veldman won the race with a time of 19:46. Tyler Morse cruised in at 21:14 (2nd place) with A.J. Heid covering the 5K course in 21:22 for the third place spot.

The girls varsity team was led by Addie Bruce (4th place). Addie covered the course in 24:40. Junior Jesse Cross ran a 25:05 for fifth place followed by Morgan Wilson in 8th place at 26:17. Shelby Powell (32:25) and Cali Powell (33:07) rounded out the girls team completing their first cross-country race in 16th and 17th place respectively. The girls' team will continue to be competitive in the Adirondack League throughout this season.

Matt Hayden ran a strong modified race placing third overall in 14:07. Matt continues to develop racing strategy, and is developing as a strong runner.
