A place where community matters

On July 30, 2007, my beloved father , Bill Tichy, was in a tragic auto accident that occurred on Route 22A in Bridport. Dad spent 4 weeks in the ICU at Fletcher Allen Hospital and was later transported to a rehabilitation facility in Agawam, Massachusetts. We are hopeful that he will make a full recovery.

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who came to his aid that day. There were a number of people who got out of their vehicles to assist him prior to the arrival of the emergency team. I do not know your names, but I saw some of your faces. My father and I were traveling in separate vehicles from his home in Massachusetts to my home in Vermont. I was less than a half hour behind him on the very same road.

When I approached the scene, Dads car had already been removed and he was in route to Porter Hospital. I had no way of knowing that it was my father who had been involved in the accident. I am grateful to those of you who took the time to support him as he waited for medical attention. He had to have been terrified and I know that your kindness was a comfort to him.

I want to thank the rescue squad for getting him to Porter Hospital so quickly. I also want to thank the fine people at Porter Hospital who worked so diligently to transport him safely to Fletcher Allen. Dad arrived within minutes after I did and I was told he needed emergency surgery. I truly appreciated the honesty of the staff when they told me the severity of his injuries and the likelihood that he would not survive. You allowed me enough time to hold a phone to his ear so that my brother could talk to him, and then you gave me a moment to hold his hand before you took him into the operating room. Thank you for that. It could have very well been the last time I would ever see him.
