COLCHESTER -- Radio audiences were treated to the Voices From The China Project broadcast during Vermont Edition on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1 and 2, at noon on the stations of Vermont Public Radio.
The documentary features audio reflections and excerpts taken from The China Project, a special multi-media collaboration that paired twenty-five musicians of the Vermont Youth Orchestra with mentors from The Young Writers Project during the VYOs concert tour of China in June and July. Together during the tour, they crafted a journal of sound, still photographs and text that chronicled their intensive, seven-city concert tour of China.
While traveling, VYO students kept friends and family around the United States updated with frequent posts to a special blog, located at
. During the two-week journey, their blog received over 20,000 visits, capturing the attention of people across the country who logged in regularly, eager to read and hear the latest tour news. The China Project became a thoughtful, collective voice for the VYO students, archiving their reaction to the complex, expansive culture of China.
A televised documentary of The China Project is in production. A DVD of the completed body of work will soon be available to the public. For additional information, visit
