BURLINGTON The Burlington City Council met recently to discuss the possibility of a smoking ban on the downtown Church Street Marketplace. The plan, entitled Family Friendly Smoking Restrictions, was proposed by Councilor Ed Adrian, and according to Adrian the ban would only be in effect from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The full council will receive the proposed plan without an endorsement from the Public Safety Committee. The Marketplace Commission said that it was opposed to the ban. Burlington Police cited that the proposed measure would be difficult to enforce, and for the plan to by financially viable, it would require fines ranging from $100 to $200.
