SHELBURNE -- Vermont author Linda Urban will read from and autograph copies of her debut book, A Crooked Kind of Perfect, published in September by Harcourt, at the Flying Pig Bookstore in Shelburne Village on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. This event will be held in the Flying Pig Loft, the spacious new addition above the bookstore, accessible by stairs or elevator. While the event is free, attendees are encouraged to RSVP at 802-985-3999. In A Crooked Kind of Perfect, ten-year-old Zoe has perfect piano dreams. All she needs is a baby grand so she can start her lessons and be on her way to receiving thunderous applause at Carnegie Hall. When dad gets her a wheezy organ from the mall, Zoe's dreams hit a sour note. And the organ isn't the only part of Zoe's life that is off-kilter, what with a mom constantly at work, dad earning diplomas from Living Room University, and her classmate weird Wheeler Diggs following her home so he can bake cookies with her dad. Yet when Zoe enters an organ competition, she finds that life is full of surprises and that perfection may be even better when it's just a little off center. A laugh-out-loud funny, realistic and upbeat story, A Crooked Kind of Perfect was named a Junior Library Guild Selection. Urban has also written a picture book, Mouse Was Mad, which will be illustrated by Henry Cole and published by Harcourt in 2009. For 10 years Urban worked at Vroman's, a landmark independent bookstore in California where she was Director of Marketing and organized author events. She now lives in Montpelier and writes children's books full-time. For additional information or to reserve autographed copies of the book if you are unable to attend this event, call The Flying Pig Bookstore at 802-985-3999.
