The holiday season is finally upon us, and what better way to celebrate the holidays than to brave the cold and check out the local arts scene? A number of performances, concerts and plays will be featured throughout the region, and picking which one to attend can be difficult. Here are a few ideas for you to insert into your calendar this December. The Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center will present The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, for two weeks in December. Dont wait to get your tickets, because the last show on Sunday, Dec. 16 is already sold out. Main Street Landing is located at 60 Lake and College. All tickets cost $10 and are available through the Flynn Box Office or at www.flynntix.org. For more information call 802-86-FLYNN. Show dates are as follows: Thursday, Dec. 6 through Saturday, December 8 at 7:30 p.m. with matinee on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. The pageant also runs the following weekend, from Thursday, Dec. 13 to Sunday, Dec. 16. Second week showtimes are the same. The beloved all-female group, Cherish the Ladies, brings their dazzling interpretations of traditional Irish tunes to the Flynn MainStage on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 8 p.m. The group has performed for almost two decades, and this year they will celebrate the old-world Christmas traditions during A Celtic Christmas. The show combines traditional Irish melodies and classic carols. The performance is sponsored by McSoley, McCoy and Co. and Vermont Mutual Insurance. The media sponsor for the event is Vermont Public Radio. Tickets for the performance are $39, $33, and $27, and are available in person at the FlynnTix Regional Box Office window at 153 Main Street, Burlington. Flynn members at the Contributor level and above save 10% and groups of 15 or more save 15 percent. The Peace and Justice Store, located at 21 Church Street in Burlington, will host a day of Fair Trade Coffee, Food Sampling and Gift Wrapping on Saturday, December 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors are invited to sample Fair Trade foods and coffee at the store while waiting for your gifts to be wrapped. Gift wrapping costs $3 per package and all proceeds go to support the Peace and Human Rights Project. On Saturday, Dec. 1, and Sunday, Dec. 2, the University of Vermont Theatre Department is presenting its 17th annual production of The Toys Take Over Christmas, a play by Patricia Clapp. This annual treat is being held in the Royall Tyler Theater at UVM. Tickets are still available, but are limited for all performances. Cost is $12 for all adults and $7 for children under 14.
