Over the fence
The first snow flurries of the season came down from Crane Mountain during the first week in November when daytime highs in Kenyontown didnt make it to 40 degrees. The 26 filled shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child from Thurman folks were turned in Nov. 10 and with the boxes from the Warrensburg Methodist Church, the total was 72 boxes on their way to needy children overseas. A special thanks to the Thurman Baptist Sunday School children and to all who donated these boxes. We have a date of Dec. 15 to fill and deliver Christmas baskets with baked goodies. Congratulations to Elizabeth Bonk in first grade and Stephanie Brown in second for winning the Halloween coloring contest that was judged by residents of Countryside Adult Home. Personals
Beatrice and Guy Bevins and Glens Falls and grandson Dan McGovern of New Jersey called on relatives in Thurman on Sunday. Bea enjoyed checking things out in her former hometown, especially the Russell residence on Sky High ROad. Thanks are out to those who made baked goods for the Meet the Candidates night at the town hall and all who helped out. Laura Cameron has returned from a three-week stay with her daughter Jackie Holbert and family in Pearl River, La. They also visited Tarpon Springs, Fla. to visit Lauras grandson, Chad Holbert. Sympathy is out to the family of Frank Sadow, a frequent visitor to Thurman who passed away on Nov. 9 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Anniversaries this week are Holly and Eric Lohrey on Nov. 24, Howard and Evie Tucker on Nov. 25 and Wendy and Gene Baird, 19 years on Nov. 26. Roy Ross celebrates his birthday on Nov. 25, Holly Hightower and Ricky Gilbert on Nov. 26, Josh Langabeer and Kody Cameron on Nov. 28 and Destiny Warrington and Woody Cyr on Nov. 30. Donations are still being accepted for Billy Arnold who injured his arm in a chainsaw accident by Town Clerk Nancy Beadnell. A covered dish pot luck luncheon is being held to honor Goldie Hitchcock on her 100th birthday at Ashes Hotel in Warrensburg on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. For information, call 9872. Countryside Adult Home
The busy residents on Schroon River Road had an active month in October with apple picking and a picnic, a boat ride on Lake George, foliage rides and pet visits. Area schoolchildren visited and Cub Scouts came and painted pumpkins. They had the annual Haunted Hallway and told ghost stories, played ghost Bingo and had a dress up party on Halloween. Music and entertainment were brought in by the Kitchen Pickers, Melodies with Emily, Family of God Ministries and Time with Brooke and Joan Hoffman and Friends. The Thurman Connections Snowmobile Club meets on Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. at the town hall. The last day to get a memory bulb on the EMS Memory Tree is Nov. 30. Call 9810 before the deadline. The deadline for your STAR Tax Rebate is Nov. 30. For information, call 4593. Warren County HEAP Program representatives will be at the town hall on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 10 - 11 a.m. and in Stony Creek from noon until 1 p.m. Anyone over the age of 60 can sign up for help with heating bills if eligible.
