Veterans are front and center in Vermont hiring

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas signed an executive proclamation declaring November Hire a Veteran Month in Vermont and urged employers, organized labor, veterans organizations and government agencies to lend their support to this drive to hire qualified veterans. Those currently serving our country, like those who served before them, have received extensive technical training and have routinely operated in highly technical and complex work environments, the governor said. Our veterans possess special qualities, skills and self-discipline, which make them ideal candidates for employment. In addition, we want to show our extreme appreciation to all Veterans and to give our thanks for their contribution to our countrys security and freedom. Douglas established a hiring preference in state government for qualified veterans in 2003. And the Vermont Department of Labor has programs and employment representatives who ensure that promote the hiring of veterans and ensure all veterans receive the services to which they are entitled.
