Westport sewer system clogged by unusual refuse

WESTPORT Westport Superintendent of DPW Jerrold Sherman said maintenance officials recently found pieces of clothing in one of the Westport Sewer Systems new pumps. We put a lot of money rebuilding the pump station at the marina, and we're finding debris that shouldn't be in the sewer system there, said Sherman. Sherman said the pump needed to be taken apart for the debris to be cleaned out. He was unsure how the fabric entered the system, but it was possible someone had flushed it down the toilet. Its not the first time maintenance people have found unusual items in the system. Sherman requested that people not use their toilets to dispose of trash. Everyone knows what belongs in a toilet - other than that, it's not a place to be dumping stuff, said Sherman.
