Police investigate Bridport theft of $100,000

On Oct. 26, at approximately 8:10 a.m., troopers from the Vermont State Police barracks in New Haven investigated a burglary complaint involving the theft of approximately $75,000 - $100,000 in cash from a residence on Lovers Lane in Bridport. Investigation at the scene revealed that an unknown individual or individuals entered a locked front door at the residence and stole approximately $75,000-$100,000 in $100 bills which were contained in a locked safe within the residence. Also stolen from the home was a significant amount of quarters estimated to be in the thousands of dollars from the basement area. The quarters were being stored in coffee cans. Investigators believe that who ever stole the cash had a knowledge of the residence as well as the safe itself and the combination.
