WADHAMS The noted American poet and educator Roger Mitchell, who makes his home in Jay, will give a reading from his recent work and conduct a writing workshop at the Wadhams Free Library Sunday afternoon Nov. 25 beginning at 2 p.m. Mitchell is the author of nine books and a recipient of the Midland Poetry Prize, the Akron Prize in Poetry, two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and one from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His book of non-fiction, Clear Pond: The Reconstruction of a Life, won the John Ben Snow Award from Syracuse University Press. He has been a director of both the MFA program and the summer writers' conference at Indiana University. He will read from recent unpublished work and two of his most recent books of poetry, Half Mask and Delicate Bait, which will be available for signing. There will be a short break for refreshment and conversation and then he will conduct a poetry-writing workshop for interested participants. Those interested in the workshop are encouraged to sign up in advance and also, if they wish, to submit a poem or two for Mitchell to read in preparation. Participants will also be encouraged to read from their work. Make reservations and submit work by emailing the Library at firstname.lastname@example.org.
