Champlain Centre to host second annual "Night of Giving"

PLATTSBURGH With hopes of being even better the second time around, Champlain Centre will host the second annual Night of Giving this Sunday, Nov. 18. The mall, located on Smithfield Boulevard, will feature 30 businesses who will offer special discounts for those who have purchased tickets from any of the 16 participating not-for-profit organizations, proceeds from which will benefit each group. The event will follow the lead of last years Night of Giving, offering not only discounts but special in-store drawings, door prizes and entertainment as well with special guest performances by the Champlain Valley Sweet Adelines, Adirondack Dance Company, Champlain Irish Dancers, Philharmonix and the Strand Vocal Group. Its the hope of Champlain Centre marketing director Joan LaPier that this year will make good use of last years winning combination. It was a complete success, Ms. LaPier said of the 2006 event. We hope this year will be even better. We have much more entertainment this year to help kick off the holiday season. It just makes a nice pre-holiday afternoon taking advantage of some wonderful discounts at some wonderful stores while helping the community as well. This years event, which will be held from 3-6 p.m., will feature the following participating businesses: Adirondack Trading Co., Advantage Wireless, Bath and Body Works, Bizarre Bazaar, Christopher Banks, C.J. Banks, Claire's Accessories, DEB, Foot Locker, Forever Bridal, FYE, Gander Mountain, General Nutrition Center, Hallmark, Hannoush Jewelers, J.C. Penney, J.C. Penney Styling, Jim's Sports, Kay Jewelers, KB Toys, Lids, McKinley Furniture, Northern Reflections, New York and Co., Payless Shoes, Ritz Camera, Scooters, Sears, The Shoe Dept. and Vermont Toy and Hobby. Tickets, at a cost of a $5 donation, are still available. Participating non-profits include the Adirondack Humane Society, 134 Idaho Ave.; Advocacy and Resource Center of Clinton County, 9 Industrial Blvd.; Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, 46 Flynn Ave.; North Country Cultural Center for the Arts, 30 Brinkerhoff St.; Hospice of the North Country, 43 Durkee St.; Child Care Coordinating Council, 194 U.S. Oval; North Country Center for Independence, 102 Sharron Ave.; Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County, located at the Plattsburgh State campus, 101 Broad St.; United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties, 45 Tom Miller Road; Champlain Valley Reading Council, 19 Tom Miller Road; and The Ted K. Center/Plattsburgh Housing Authority, 8 Tyrell Ave., all in Plattsburgh. Others include the Elizabethtown Social Center, 7626 State Route 9, and Adirondack Community Action Programs, 7552 Court St., both in Elizabethtown. Other organizations include Champlain Valley Chorus of Sweet Adelines International, 962-2321; Journey Into Reading, 561-4213; and the St. John Feral Cat Fund, 563-3498. Many of the participating organizations will be on hand during the evening with their own informational displays and additional fundraisers. The 2007 Night of Giving will also feature the Festival of Trees, a fundraising event for the Advocacy and Resource Center of Clinton County. Decorated trees will be on display and will be available through a silent auction or a drawing.
