Annual Community Bazaar to be held in Minerva

MINERVA Never underestimate a small towns ability to have big fun! The town of Minerva will be holding its annual Community Bazaar on Friday, Nov. 30 at Minerva Central School from 4:30-7 p.m., marking a tradition that has been a part of the community for an astonishing 42 years. The bazaar is a great place to score some holiday goodies while contributing to a number of great causes. Each year, a different organization from Minerva hosts the event, some of which in the past have included the MCS student council, the Minerva Parent Teacher Student Organization and the Minerva Historical Society. This years host is the Minerva Sleeping Giants, a group of Minerva seniors whose members Betty Boos, Judy Jenning and Carol Fresca, have taken on the role of chairpersons of the bazaar. The event features an impressive array of community members who each have a table set up offering various treats from preserves and baked goods to stuffed animals. This years theme, An Angelica Christmas will feature angel-themed decor. In the past, groups such as the Minerva Service Organization, Operation Santa, Dollars for Scholars, The Girl Scouts, and St. Josephs Church have participated, and favorites such as the Minerva Baptist ladies cookie walk and Betty LeMay of the Lemon Potpourris Bettys buns have resurfaced year after year. Minerva Central students get involved too; the class of 2009 will serve food, the fifth graders will be offering hot chocolate at their booth coined The Cozy Caf_ and there are hopes that some of the younger children will serenade this years bazaar with a few Christmas carols. And lets not forget Santa. The Jolly Ol Elf will be in attendance to see if youve been naughty or nice. Boos, Jenning, and Fresca, or the three musketeers as Jenning called them, have kept busy as of late preparing for the event, collaborating activities and entertainment and collecting decorations. The people who come really do respond very well. said Boos, In past years theres been a really good turnout. Its an opportunity to get some goodies in for Christmas; everyone really enjoys it. The town of Minerva certainly has a way of bringing the community members together with events like Minerva Day, the Minerva Clam Bake and the Annual Community Bazaar that celebrate life in a small town. Its a very close community; they pull together in times of need and really care about each other. said Boos. There are so many people and places that make Minerva a very nice community added Jenning, The bazaar is definitely a community thing.
