Veterans Day observance to remember Lake Placid man

ELIZABETHTOWN The Essex County Veteran's Committee will host an observance of Veteran's Day on Monday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the newly established Veteran's Cemetery located one mile west of the hamlet of Wadhams on the north side of County Route 9. Various contigents from Essex County veterans organizations will be honoring those who served in the United States military services. Special mention will be made of the seven veterans who have been interred in the new cemetery to date. In addition, the observance will include a military burial for decorated World War II veteran Richard F. McDonald. Richard aka "Mac" lived in the Lake Placid area for many years after World War II and was a member, as well as past commander, of Lake Placid American Legion Post No. 326. McDonald passed away in 1997 and before his death he had expressed a wish to be buried in a veteran's cemetery. Now that a suitable resting place has been found, his cremation remains can finally be laid to rest with military honors. The public is welcome to attend the observance.
