Town Hall Theater still needs $100,000

MIDDLEBURY The final phase of construction for Middleburys Town Hall Theater officially began Oct. 31, with a ground-breaking ceremony on the west side of the building. Present at the affair was Gov. Jim Douglas, Maynard Mac McLaughlin of Bread Loaf Corporation, project architect Ashar Nelson, and several representatives from Town Hall Theater, Inc. Weve been working on this building since 2000, said THT Executive Director Douglas Anderson. Its thrilling to be in the home stretch. THT still needs to raise over $100,000 to finish the $5 million campaign, but it decided to start construction now to take advantage of competitive winter rates from sub-contractors. The construction market is in a bit of a slump, and winter is always a great time to do interior work. We need to save every dime we can on this project, and starting now should save us quite a lot of money. The grand reopening of the building is slated for early summer 2008. Gov. Douglas, a Middlebury resident, has taken an active interest in the project. He has spoken at several THT events, and has helped the group successfully compete for state grants. Jim is always very giving of his time and energy, said Anderson.
