Addison County Chamber of Commerces Publicity and Promotions Committee announced that the November Business of the Month is American Flatbread, located in Middlebury. The first American Flatbread oven was created 22 years ago by George Schenk in his back yard. Eventually this concept grew into the wholesale and restaurant model that is still at the Lareau Farm in Waitsfield, and later at the Marbleworks in Middlebury. American Flatbread pizzas are baked with only wholesome ingredients (local and organic whenever possible), and everything is made by hand. The frozen pizzas are even boxed by hand. In addition to the companys excellent flatbread pizzas served in their restaurants, the company now distributes over 10,000 frozen flatbreads weekly to 46 states. Locally, you can buy frozen flatbreads at the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op in Middlebury. Danielle Boyce has been the manager of the Middlebury restaurant since February of 2006. She worked in Williston for many years but after she and her husband bought a house in Vergennes she decided she wanted a job closer to home. She has always been impressed with the mission statement of American Flatbread and when she saw they were hiring, she jumped at the chance to work for them. She has many years experience working in the restaurant business and is glad to be working back in the field.
