Feel the rush at the falls

GLENS FALLS NYS Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPAA) is holding the Girls Volleyball 2007 State Championship Tournament at the Glens Falls Civic center on Nov. 17 and 18, with games 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday. Sections AA, A, and B will play in the morning wave beginning at 9 a.m. Sections C and D will play in the afternoon wave beginning at 2:30 p.m. The top two teams in each class advance to the finals, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday. BOYS SOCCER Cougars dethrone Fort Ann North Warren 3 Fort Ann 1 North Warren de-throned three-time defending champion Fort Ann on Oct. 30, with two second half goals from John Remington and a 3-1 victory in the Class D semifinal of the Section II Boys Soccer Tournament. Fred Meade scored the first goal for the Cougars. It is the third time in 20 seasons that an Adirondack team other than Fort Ann has played in the Class D finals. Sharon Springs overtakes Cougars Sharon Springs 3 North Warren 0 Sharon Springs took the Class D, Section II Boys Soccer Tournament from North Warren on Saturday, Nov. 3, defeating the Cougars 3-0. It was their first loss in 16 games. GIRLS SOCCER Mechanicville gets by Warriors Mechanicville 5 Lake George 1 Mechanicville beat Lake George 5-1 in the Class CC quarterfinal of the Section II Girls Soccer Tournament on Oct. 30. Becky Kendall scored the Warriors one goal. VOLLEYBALL Warriors advance to final game Lake George 3 Schenectady Christian 0 Lake George swept Schenectady Christian on Thursday, Nov. 1, advancing to the final in the Section II Girls Volleyball Tournament. Caryssa Leland scored 21 service points and 13 aces, Brittany Jones had 20 assists and 12 points, Chrissy Scanlon Scanlon had 12 kills and seven points while Candice Koenig had 10 points and five aces. Shelby Jenkins added six digs and Kelly Fuchs had seven kills and four points. Voorheesville dashes Warriors hopes Voorheesville 3 Lake George 2 It took five games, but Voorheesville topped Lake George in the Class C Final game on Saturday, Nov. 3. FIELD HOCKEY Burgers grab Class C crown Warrensburg 1 Johnsburg 0 Abby Roth whacked the ball in for Warrensburgs goal with 10 minutes left in the game, clinching the Class C Championship on Nov. 1 at Skidmore. Roth not only scored the games sole goal, but it was the 66th goal of the season, a new school record. Burgers forge ahead in playoff game Warrensburg 1 Granville 0 Warrensburg scored in overtime to beat Granville 1-0 in the Class C-CC playoff game of the Section II Field Hockey Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Skidmore. Rachelle Black passed to Brittany Lawrence, who scored the winning goal for the Burgers. They play again on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. on the turf at Skidmore.
