PLATTSBURGH Its that time of year again, the time when businesses come together to offer a taste of what they have to offer, and its called Taste of the North Country. The Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce will host the event, now in its 12th year, this Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Plattsburgh State Field House, located at 167 Rugar St. The event continues to be a successful fundraiser for chamber activities year after year, said chamber executive vice president Jody Parks, with this year expected to be no exception. Its definitely grown over the years, said Ms. Parks. We started out at a much smaller venue and have grown so big the Field House seems to be the only place big enough to hold us. Thats no surprise with the regular crowd of 600-800 people each year, drawn to samples offered by local restaurants and businesses. This year, nearly 25 have signed on to show off their wares. In addition to being a great opportunity for the public to get a taste of local businesses, the event also offers opportunities for great deals on more than 400 items from a silent auction and live auction held during the evening. Ive got lamps, Ive got clothing, Ive got carpets, Ive got chairs, Ive got artwork. Its absolutely amazing what we get, said Ms. Parks. Youll be able to find just about anything you can imagine. With the events date in close proximity to the holiday shopping season, attendees can bring home great deals that can be given as gifts this Christmas, Ms. Parks added. Taste of the North Country really is a great way to support the chamber and still walk away with something that night, Ms. Parks said. Its nice to know that, for example, if you planned on going to Ground Round and spending $50 anyway, you can purchase a gift certificate at Taste of the North Country and that way you get the gift certificate and help the chamber. Its just a great way to experience all of the products the North Country has to offer, she added. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the silent auction and tasting. The main auction, hosted by auctioneer Steve Martin, will begin at 7 p.m., with a special preview for ticket-holders at 5 p.m. Business participating in this years event include Adirondack Coffee Roasters, Anthonys Restaurant and Bistro, CV-TEC Culinary Arts Program, Dames Discount Liquor and Wine, The Comfort Inns Grand Ballroom, Liquor and Wine Warehouse, Geoffreys Pub and Restaurant, The Ground Round, Nicolas Restaurant, Legends L & M Discount Liquor and Wine, Perkins Restaurant, Lake Shore Candy and Flowers, Lake Placid Craft Brewing, Ninety-Nine Restaurant, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Group, Rambachs International Bakery, Sams Club, Smithfield Discount Liquor and Wine, Starbucks Coffee, Stiles Wine Consulting, Stone House Vineyard and Walmart Supercenter. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $12 at the chamber of commerce offices, 7061 State Route 9, or the day of the event for $18. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
