Daylight Savings Time has begun and the nights are darker so much earlier. That part of the time change I thoroughly enjoy and always have, especially if I am home and dont have to move! The early morning daylight takes a bit of getting used to, but we all do, every year. Hope everyone had a fun Halloween and that the election results were the ones that you wanted. I have no idea what I was thinking last week when I mentioned elections were over; now they are, but they certainly werent then! The Plattsburgh International Airport is up and running. The first passengers were Canadian, the major market being targeted. Hats off to all involved in the hard work to obtain this goal. Now, a direct flight to Orlando, Fla., would be a wonderful thing! The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign is looking for bell ringers. The campaign begins in mid-November and runs through Monday, Dec. 24. If you want to help out. call 561-2951, the Red Kettle Center at 1-877-764-7259, or go on-line www.redkettles.org and fill in the volunteer form on-line. If you belong to a service club, such as Kiwanis, Rotary or the Lions, challenge another of the clubs to see who can raise the most money. This is a very worthwhile project and a rewarding experience. The craft fair at the Plattsburgh State Field House will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 and 11. Watch the papers for their ads, but that show is always a big one, well attended and well worth going to. There will be Veterans Day services around our area. On Monday, Nov. 12, the VFW in Plattsburgh will have their service at 11 a.m., with guest speakers. Rouses Points service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Rouses Point Civic Center. A light luncheon will follow their service. On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Battle of Plattsburgh Association will present a night at the movies at 7 p.m. The film will be Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, which is an historical action film. The movie will be in the 1812 Museum Theater. Call 566-1814 for further information. Dont forget "Taste of the North Country," sponsored by the Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Nov. 15. The time is 5-8 p.m. at the Plattsburgh State Field House. There will be a silent auction from 5-7 p.m., followed by a live auction. Many area restaurants will be there and you can sample food from all of them. Tickets are $12 in advance or $18 at the door. The 15th annual charity auction and 50/50 raffle to benefit the Interfaith Food Shelf of Clinton County will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Senior Citizens Council, 5139 N. Catherine St., Plattsburgh. The time is from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. This event is sponsored annually by Eye Care for the Adirondacks. Businesses may donate by calling 566-2020 and speaking to David McKee at Eye Care. This annual event is fun, with lots of items to bid on and the proceeds go to a wonderful cause. Dont forget the Nutcracker being performed Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Nov. 25 the performance will be at 2 p.m. All performances are in the Hartmann Theater on the PSUC campus. Call 563-1604 for ticket information. Also dont forget the "Stars on Ice" performance featuring Sasha Cohen Nov. 24 at Lake Placid. The time is 8 p.m. and the ticket starting price is $25. Call 523-3330 for ticket information. Congratulations to the Chazy Boys and Girls Soccer Teams on their recent Section VII championships. Good luck to both teams as they move on to regional play. The packing continues and we are still speaking. Ill fill you in next week as this disagreement tends to escalate as departure date grows nearer! We had the unfortunate occasion to visit the CVPH Medical Center Emergency Room last Friday night and once again have nothing but good things to say about the staff, nurses and docs. A very caring, concerned, efficient and proficient group of people; we are certainly blessed with our hospital. Until next week, remember each day is Gods gift to you.
