Michele Powers promoted to chamber marketing V.P.

PLATTSBURGH The Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce has announced the promotion of Michele Powers to the newly created position of vice president for marketing. "This represents recognition of Michele's leadership skills and marketing expertise," stated chamber president Garry Douglas," and the central importance of marketing to the chamber's mission, both in tourism and in economic development. In this enhanced position, she will join the chamber's management team alongside Jody Parks, our executive vice president, and Susan Matton, our vice president of economic development." Ms. Powers has served since 2005 as the chamber's director of the Visitors and Convention Bureau. In that role, she has led a reorientation and repositioning of the chamber's tourism development and marketing strategies, including the launch of the Adirondack Coast brand, the development of a major new bilingual Web site and e-marketing program, an updated focus on Montreal, and support for the attraction and hosting of groups and conventions, including Lake Champlain fishing tournaments. Ms. Powers is also credited for being a key member of the chamber's marketing efforts on behalf of Plattsburgh International Airport, including a highly successful airport Web site and e-marketing strategy, organizing and promoting airport marketing events, developing Montreal air service promotion campaigns and creating cost-effective marketing materials. "Michele has brought the chamber an incredible depth and breadth of in-house marketing know-how, coupled with great enthusiasm and teamwork," stated Mr. Douglas. "While her responsibilities will not be changing, it was time to recognize her place on the chamber team and the great work she is doing to promote the area economy." Prior to joining the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Powers was marketing communications manager for GlobalSpec Inc., directing integrated marketing for a specialized search engine. Prior to that, she was strategic marketing manager for the Americas for MapInfo in Troy. Awards for her marketing work have included the Golden Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago; the President's Leadership Award from GlobalSpec; a 2002 AdQ Award for Outstanding Advertising; the NORI Award from the Association of Professional Communicators; and recognition by the Women's Business Council.
