Cruise through the 50s at Variety Show

WARRENSBURG Poodle skirts and saddle shoes will be the garb of the day during the Warrensburg Variety Show coming up next weekend. Cruisin thru the 50s will be presented on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10, at 7 p.m. at the Warrensburg Elementary School. Directed by Florence LaFountain, the annual show raises money for Operation Santa Claus and Santas elves. This year, it will feature music of the 50s, including Rock Around the Clock, Only You, Blueberry Hill and more. The show traditionally features a country segment, and country tunes like Davy Crockett, This Ole House and other country tunes from the 50s will be performed, with accompanist Fay Robinson. The cast includes many of LaFountains former dance students and educators. Jerry Grant recently retired from the school system, but he is back for his sixth variety show. Ive been in education for so many years, I like to continue to give back to the kids, and help Florence out, Grant said. Shes absolutely tireless and so talented. Trudi Egan was one of those dance students of LaFountains. She has such a hold on you, since you were little, you just cant say no to her, Egan said. Susan Jennings has also been a part of the variety show from the beginning. I do it for the kids, and we just love Florence, she said. Tickets are available at Posies, from cast members or at the door.
