Lake Placid school carnival expands

LAKE PLACID Its all fun and games at Lake Placid Elementary School next weekend. The annual Spring Carnival for Lake Placid Elementary will be held Saturday, June 2 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the school. The event, sponsored by the Friends of Lake Placid Elementary School, has been expanded to include more activities. This carnival is much bigger than anything we've ever done. We've added a lot to it, said Melanie O'Brien, a member of the Friends of Lake Placid Elementary School, which organizes the event. There will be carnival games, a dunking booth, a virtual simulator, luge track, bouncy house, and climbing wall. Along with activities, carnival-style food will be sold. The event will also include contributions from other organizations. The Lake Placid Fire Department will bring a fire truck and the After School Program will sell temporary tattoos and make-your-own sundaes. The Lake Placid Police Department will perform a bike rodeo providing bike inspection and free helmets along with safety course. Lake Placid Masonic Lodge will provide free child fingerprinting and ID video. A silent auction, which includes six Adirondack chairs decorated by the students of LPES, and over $3,000 of items and gift certificates from area businesses, will be held. The funds raised support the organization, which helps to pay for field trips, sponsors Christmas shopping day, holds a fourth and fifth grade dance, and more. For more information on the organization, visit www.edline.net/pages/Lake_Placid_Elementary_School. The carnival usually raises about $3,000, but the Friends organization hopes that expanding offerings will help raise more funds. OBrien called the event a community carnival, and hopes people from throughout the area would attend. Everybody is invited - it's not just for our school - we hope that a lot of people come out and support us, said OBrien.
