The Rachael Ray Show in Lake George

LAKE GEORGE She enjoys an occasional dinner at the Montcalm and says she chats, cooks and hangs out for a living. Rachael Ray returned to her roots for her annual fundraising show before a sold out house at Lake George High School last week, and she spent some time with the press before the show. Ray has launched a new charity found at yum-o.org. She said it has three levels, to get kids and parents to cook together and learn how to eat healthy and affordable meals; to feed hungry children in this country and to raise funds to award schools that make good choices in the lunch room. Ray has partnered with former President Bill Clintons Alliance for a Healthier Generation to empower families to make healthier choices. He appeared on her show the day after her Lake George appearance. My mom and I talked about this years ago, Ray said. With all the single moms, and latchkey kids, its tough to make sure theyre eating right. She met a chef who does school programs, teaching healthy eating habits and went to Clintons Alliance and put together her own organization. Ray also reminisced about her days at Lake George High School. I remember Mr. Luces fake city, she said. I was the mayor. She said she loved algebra and Mr. Hamilton, but hated trigonometry. Ray visits what she calls her cabin in Lake Luzerne about once a month or whenever she gets 36 hours off. Her father lives in Saratoga and her brother teaches karate in Glens Falls. Ray said the first season of her show, Rachael Ray, was complete with the appearance of Clinton. Its been a great, great year, she said. I couldnt believe it when the White House called and asked if Laura Bush could come on and talk about heart disease awareness. Ray said she had a nightmare the night before that show that she would be captured by the Secret Service. I dreamed that I said something wrong and they had to take me away, she said. Weve had guests way over the A-List, Ray said. Michael J. Fox was so inspirational, and Morgan Freeman, he just glows. Weve had Oprah, rock stars; you dont understand the fun factor of being around these people, its been great. Ray likes to promote her roots to the world and mentions the Lake George area on her show. I dont want people to get mad at me when I shop at Price Chopper, she said. She said when she does go out locally, she enjoys the half chicken and beans at the Montcalm, a Harvest Pizza and shopping at Sutton's. Ive been going there since it was an apple and cider stand, she said.
