For the first time in a long time I can truly say I love this area! And I feel good about my job!
Not only do I have the privilege of being a community newspaper editor, I am sitting in the middle of an area that is ready to explode to that next level.
No longer need we compare the City and Town of Plattsburgh with Burlington - fact is, we are thriving - but without the headaches of that rush hour drive, and lack of parking. Plattsburgh has become an area as rich in character as it is in promise.
Sure there are plenty of skeptics out there, and there are many hurdles yet to come, such as landing a couple airlines, and finishing up some of the projects that have been dragging - but there is vision, determination and drive.
We have developers willing to give this area a chance, and quite frankly, situated on Beautiful Lake Champlain, literally surrounded by the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains, this is the new land of opportunity.
The historical value of the area alone is priceless, with The Battle of Plattsburgh Interpretive Center and the new Four Chimneys Museum, the nearby Alice T. Miner Museum and on and on. Add in the undying efforts of the North Country Center of the Arts, The Arts Council, Hill and Hollow Music and Norte Maar, and we do have some amazing music, arts and entertainment, thats right here for us to enjoy.
We have our North Country Michigans, and we have our gourmet foods as well.
When it comes to shopping, we now have choices and theres more on the way.
Heck, were even getting a Target!
Clinton Community College and Plattsburgh State University and their new educational opportunities have brought forth the promise of developments and industry, and ultimately more jobs.
