Around the county

One more week for us in the sunny south and then the northward trek begins! From reading daily weather reports, we will come back to no snow and no ice, but Lake Champlain levels are extremely high. We sit up high enough for it not to be a personal worry and it sounds like the New York side is OK, but it is an annual concern, that is for sure!

We saw photos of the grand opening of the new airport terminal and it appears to be a most impressive edifice. Now, if our leaders will come up with a viable passenger air service life in the North Country would be good. Also read where Plattsburgh again was listed in the top numbers of small cities and that has to be good for the region!

Congratulations to Naromie Ganest who was recently named the Champlain Valley Business and Professional Womans Clubs 2007 Virginia Allen Young Careerist. Ganest is the Plattsburgh College Foundations assistant director of annual giving.

It is good to know that Mountain Lake PBS is back on the air after their tower collapsed. Thanks go to WCAX in Burlington and WPTZ in Plattsburgh for their help in getting their signal back on track.

Golf tournaments appear to be beginning all over the North Country. On June 22 the 3rd Annual Al DLano Classic will be held at Adirondack Country Club. The event will be a 4 person scramble with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. To register call Terry Condo at 563-4724.

On June 10 Chazy Youth Hockey will sponsor the 1st Annual Invitational Golf Tournament in honor of Evelyn Hammack and Stacey L. Frechette. The event will be a 4 person scramble with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at Bluff Point. For information on this tournament call Melanie Guay at 846-8773 or 335-1127.
