Heather Osowiecki has been selected to perform at the 2007 MENC All-Eastern Honors Ensembles. The last time a Johnsburg student achieved that honor was in 1979, reports Superintendent Mark Markwica. Music Educator's National Conference, the national organization of music teachers of which NYSSMA (New York State School Music Teachers) is a subsidiary group, holds a biannual conference at which Honors Ensembles comprised of the very top students from each state perform in concert. It is extremely rare that a local student is chosen, said Osowiecki s teacher, Mary Bocinski. Selection is based upon NYSSMA solo competition ratings earned the prior spring, and each student selected has earned a perfect score on their instrument. The All Eastern Honors Ensembles are from the 13 states in the East and also includes American students living in Europe. Heather was chosen for the All Eastern Mixed Chorus as an alto 2, the lowest female voice part, Bocinski said. Heather plans to study vocal music in college next year, and has been accepted at the prestigious Crane School of Music in Potsdam. She has also sung in the 2006 NYSSMA Women's Chorus, the ACC Vocal Ensemble and the ACC Concert Choir, the Johnsburg Central School Concert Chorus and Pop Singers. She has also been the student director the JCS musical presentation of "Into The Woods" last winter. I could go on and on, Bocinski said.
