Fourth grader wins poetry contest

Champlain Valley Christian School fourth grade student Stephanie Praamsma is the Vermont state winner for the Green-Up Vermont writing contest in the third and fourth grade category. Contest officials solicited essays and poetry describing what Green-Up Day means. Praamsmas poem won first prize in her category. The young poet, along with her parents and teacher, Fawnda Buttolph, attended an awards banquet at the Governors Plaza on March 23. Her poem appears below. Its Green Up Day! I was walking on Saturday And I remembered, Its Green Up Day! I grabbed a bag- No time for tag And started to clean up A neighbor asked, Are you cleaning? And I answered, Yup! I grabbed some bottles and some cans And I even found two rusted pans! When I got to the end of our street My whole body was tired, even my feet. I wanted to stop and go to bed; Do not stop! My conscience said. So I kept going; I was not slowing I finished the day Tomorrow Ill play Unless its another Green Up Day!
